Proctors and Capital Repertory Theatre Announces 2019-2020 Line-Up

Proctors Theatre and Capital Repertory Theatre announced its 2019-2020 Subscription Series and Subscriber exclusives on Monday, March 4th at the Season Announcement Bash. 

Leading the notable pack of shows coming to Proctors are The SpongeBob Musical and Disney's Frozen: The Hit Musical both of which will be launching their National Tours from Schenectady. Also coming to Proctors which got everyone excited is Dear Evan Hansen! Winner of 6 2017 Tony Awards including Best Musical and 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. 


At Capital Repertory Theatre, the feel-good musical comedy smash hit Sister Act was announced as the inaugural show at its new home at 251 N. Pearl, which is only blocks away from its present location in Downtown Albany.

The Band’s Visit

In an Israeli desert town where every day feels the same, something different is suddenly in the air. Dina, the local café owner, had long resigned her desires for romance to daydreaming about exotic films and music from her youth. When a band of Egyptian musicians shows up lost at her café, she and her fellow local stake them in for the night. Under the spell of the night sky, their lives intertwine in unexpected ways, and this once sleepy town begins to wake up. 


The Band’s Visit features music and lyrics by Tony Award and DramaDesk Award winner David Yazbek, and a book by Tony, NY Drama Critics Circle, Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Awards winner Itamar Moses. It is based on the screenplay by Eran Kolirin and is directed by Tony, Drama Desk, Lortel and Obie Award winner David Cromer.

It’s a Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theater

The whole family can enjoy this timeless tale of a lovable fellow down on his luck and ready to end it all—until an Angel Second Class shows him life’s true value. Ring in the season as Clarence earns his wings with this beloved fable of how one life can make a very big difference to the lives of so many!

The Irish and How They Got That Way

Hold onto your hats for this rollicking, roller coaster of a ride compiled by Frank McCourt [Angela’s Ashes), who brings his razor-sharp wit, trademark bitter irony and boundless love of his people to this revue about all things Irish. This show delivers what it promises: stirring blarney, a bit of hokum, genuine heartache and much joy. Set in McCourt’s Pub, complete with a working bar, the narration weaves a buoyant blend of traditional songs, show tunes and pop—from “Danny Boy” and George M. Cohan to U2—with a reminder of the injustices, humiliations, and privations suffered by the Irish people both in Ireland and here in their new neighborhoods in America.

 

Sister Act

This feel-good musical comedy smash—with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner—will have you jumping to your feet! Featuring original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical has delivered joy to audiences from Broadway to Beirut! When lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, the Vegas diva finds herself at odds with a starched Mother Superior, but using her dance moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the community—and herself as well. Filled with rock, pop and powerful gospel music, Sister Act—based on the Touchstone Pictures film written by Joseph Howard—is a sparkling tribute to the power of friendship, giving us all a reason to rejoice!
