Shooting Stars at Dance Me

Everyone deserves to dance! Everyone has the ability to dance!

Everyone deserves to dance! Everyone has the ability to dance!

Dance Me was Macaroni Kid Schenectady's 2016 Gold Daisy Award Winner for Best Dance Class. Our subscribers and readers voted it as their favorite local business in the Dance category.

Dance Me School of Dance and Character Development was founded in 2015 by Kathy Holtz. Ms. Kathy has 10 years+ teaching experience, as well as extensive training and certification as a school counselor. Dance Me is focused on providing an inclusive, supportive, and encouraging environment for dancers, both inside and outside of the dance studio.

Its success in Niskayuna prompted it to open a second location in Glenville and you will be thrilled to know that it's offering a wonderful new class for our Special Needs friends ~ called Shooting Stars.  I reached out to Ms. Kathy so you can get the scoop about this new and more inclusive class in our community!

1. Can you tell us about the Shooting Stars Class?

We are so excited to extend our Dance Me Family! The new location in Glenville gives Dance Me the opportunity to extend its supportive network to dancers with special needs through our Shooting Stars class. The class will be taught by Celine Allende, one of our staff with extensive experience and training which caters to children with special needs.

Classes will be for both girls or boys with special needs and it will be held in our Glenville location at 126 Saratoga Rd. Scotia, Glenville. Classes will be on Tuesday evenings from 6:45-7:30 for students age 6 to 11, and from 7:30-8:15 for students age 12+.

2) What inspired you to offer a Special Needs Dance Class in our community?
Students with special needs don't often get the chance to explore the world of dance. Dance Me is a place of character development, community involvement, and personal growth. This inclusive mentality provides a safe environment for students to explore their creativity and grow as individuals, and we believe that no student should ever be limited in their ability to express themselves through movement. We want to provide another creative outlet for students who might not regularly get such an opportunity. We are looking forward to meeting our new dancers!

3) What are the benefits of Dance to a special needs child?
For a special needs student, often times creative movement and dance are overlooked. We believe that every student should have the ability to explore their creativity and movement, and special needs dancers are no different. Dance training provides students with skills that are applicable in their daily lives. Communication techniques, body language, respect for teachers and students, as well as memory and sensory training round out the dance education provided by Dance Me. Dance stimulates the mind and body and allows for a safe place to interact with others and break down social barriers. These things are essential for all children. The Dance Me mentality is all about character development, and we believe everyone should have the ability to learn and grow as a person.

4) When will it start? How much is the class?
Tuesday night Shooting Stars Special Needs classes will begin the week of February 6th. The schedule and tuition details can be found HERE.  Other Dance Me classes are also offered and details of which can be found on our website.

5) Do you have an Open House so people can check out the studio, ask questions and/ or register for the Shooting Stars Class?
We are hosting an Open House on Sunday, February 12th from 1-3pm. We are looking forward to meeting new friends and providing another place for children of all abilities in our community to grow, move, and learn.
