Summer Day Trip to Zoom Flume: A Review Plus a Giveaway!

Family Friendly Events & Activities for Kids in Schenectady County

By Gladys Dunbar July 28, 2016
Do you remember our 101 Day Trips in Upstate New YorkAll the fun places to visit during the Summer that're worth the 3-hour drive from Schenectady NY. One of the places we highlighted was Zoom Flume Water Park. Beautifully built around the Catskill Mountains, Zoom Flume Water Park is about an hour drive from Schenectady. Last Saturday, we decided to beat the heat and explore it.

The place was packed and one could easily tell from outside why it's a popular Summer destination. Zoom Flume has a variety of fun things for kids, tweens, teens, and adults! My family spent the day splashing at the Lagoon Activity Pool,  floating on the Lazy River and had a blast at the Wild River Twist. Seeing the happy look on my son's face while he was prancing around the pool and playing by the fountain melted my heart. He waited for this day all summer long and it's finally here.

Apart from all the fun and exciting splash areas and thrill rides, I loved that the park was laid out and sectioned thoughtfully and it did not feel like people were on top of each other. The Water Park had plenty of lounge chairs and picnic tables that guests could use for free. Some spots are shaded and some are directly under the sun. As you might have guessed already, prime spots are the first ones to go especially during the weekends so come early to beat the crowd.

I also liked that Parking was free and guests were allowed to bring a small cooler bag inside the Water Park. There are also FREE picnic tables just outside of Zoom Flume and families with larger cooler bags could use it. This is a huge help especially for families who are on a budget, have family members with food allergies or just prefer to bring their own food and drinks. My son is a picky eater so everywhere we go, we always pack his favorites.

Zoom Flume Water Park's Day Rates are reasonable. If you are looking to get more value for your money, the Season Pass is the way to go. There are also Park amenities which you could rent for a fee, to make your stay more comfortable like lockers and private cabanas. Zoom Flume has a snack bar that serves pizza, wraps, burgers, funnel cakes and ice cream. There's also Country Place Resort for guests who would like to stay overnight.

Lastly, the Water Park had a free Reptile Show which we also enjoyed. I thought it was a great way to get the kids out of the water and a perfect way to end our fun day at the park. If a reptile show does not appeal to your kiddos, there's also face painting and a balloon artist. Special events and entertainment are posted online so be sure to check those prior to going.

Overall, my family had a wonderful experience at Zoom Flume Water Park! Thanks to Zoom Flume Water Park for providing my family with complimentary passes to the park for this review.

SCHENECTADY MACARONI KID TIPS:

1. Do your Homework. Before going it is prudent to check online the height and/ or weight requirements of all the attractions. Measure your children and know which ones are appropriate for their safety.

2. Wear Water Shoes. Although not required, I think it is good to wear water shoes. The park is huge and although the walkway leading to the other attractions are paved or wooden, it's more comfortable to walk around the park wearing one.

3. Bring a Waterproof Container. Bring a waterproof container to put just your essentials like your car key, cash or card, and/ or mobile phone. There are so many cheap but functional ones that you can buy online.  Leave valuables at home or locked inside your car.

4. Eat and Hydrate. Feed your family before going, pack a snack and a bottle of water for everyone in your party. I'm not sure if the park has one, but I did not see any water fountains at the park so plan accordingly. You and your family will be out in the sun most of the time, it's essential to stay hydrated.

5. Sunscreen is a Must. Apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day to avoid sunburn.
