Ice Skating Rinks

An hour of ice skating burns about as many calories as jogging but is lower impact and way more fun. Following is a list of ice rinks, both indoor and outdoor, that we've found in the Capital Region. 


Schenectady County Recreational Facility

*Offers public skate, open hockey, open figure skating, and other sessions multiple times a week. For public skate: regular admission $4 / kids (5 and under) $2 / seniors $2. Skate rental is $3.

Public Skating Schedule:
Sun: 2pm to 4pm, Mon: 12pm to 2pm, Tues to Fri: 11am to 1pm, Sat; 1-2:50pm



Union College Messa Rink

*Offers public skate, drop-in hockey, and other programs a few days a week, including Sunday afternoons. Public skate is $3 / students, faculty, staff free / spouses and children of faculty and staff $2. Skate rental is $3.

Public Skating Schedule;
Sun: 2-3:45pm, No Skating December 20, Mon to Wed: 12pm - 1:30pm, Fri: Oct 9, 16, 30: 12 - 1:30pm
No Skating: Oct 2 & 23.





Albany County Hockey Facility

Public skate: adults $4, seniors $3, children 5 and under $2, rentals for $3.
Open hockey: (for high school and older) $10 on weekdays, $12 on weekends, goalies play for free.
Adult skate: age 30-59 $3, age 60 and over $2

Public Skating Schedule;
Mon to Thurs: 12-2pm, Fri: 11:30am to 1pm, Sun 2:30 to 4pm, Oct 31, 2:15pm to 3:45pm (Sat), No Skating on Oct 10, 17 & 24.



Bethlehem YMCA Ice Skating Rink

Open until the end of March, and non-members are allowed to skate there. For Non-Members: $5 for adults, $4 for students, $3 for 5 & under. Rentals $2. They also offer open hockey lessons and ice hockey clinics.


Public Skating Schedule;
Mon: 1:15 to 3:15pm, Tues: 3:15 to 5:15pm, Wed: 1:30am to 3:30pm, Thurs: 2:45 to 4:45pm, Fri:1:45 to 3:45pm, Sun 5:45 to 6:45pm.


Clifton Park Ice Arena - Opens October 17th!

Often offers public skating on the weekends, and during school breaks. Check the schedule at the website.
Public skate is $5, kids (3 and under) $3. Skate rental is $3. (No credit cards.)

Public Skating Schedule;
Sat & Sundays, starting Oct 17: 1 to 2pm.


HVCC Conway Ice Rink

Admission is $3 adults / $2 kids (under 12) / $2 alumni, faculty, staff (with ID) / free for HVCC students (with ID).

Public Skating Schedule:
Monday-Friday from noon-2 pm, and weekends from 4-6:15 pm (Oct 25 to Mar 8, 2015).




Knickerbacker Ice Arena, Troy

The rink has public skate, adult skate, and hockey sessions throughout the week. Public skate is $5 adults / $3 for kids (under 18).

Public Skating Schedule:
Monday-Friday: 12:30 to 2:20pm, 2:30 to 4:20pm, Oct 10, 4 to 5:20pm. Oct 17, 24 & 31, 3:30 - 4:50pm




Saratoga Springs Ice Rinks

Saratoga Springs has two rinks, an Olympic size rink open July-April and Vernon Arena open September-March. The rinks offer a wide range of open skates, family skates, hockey, figure skating, kids programs. The price varies based on whether you're a city resident or not. Open skating is $4 adults 18-49 and $3 6-17 and 50+ (city residents); add a dollar for non-city residents. Kids 5 and under are free. Skate rentals/sharpenings are $4.

Public Skating Schedule:
Sun: 3pm to 5pm, Oct 10, 5 to 7pm. Oct 17, 1:30 to 3:30pm, Oct 21 & 28: 4pm to 6pm, Fri, Light Out Open Public: 6:15pm to 8:15pm
